Review: The Punisher #9 (2018) by Matthew Rosenberg

The Punisher has been many times in prison, but never orchestrated such a prison break like this. The last issues in prison are coming to an end and Frank trained and prepared some amateur inmates who executed his plans flawlessly and took over the Hydra prison.

So far, Matthew Rosenberg has delivered a great storytelling and this prison arc has been good so far. But it wasn’t enough for Frank, opening the gates for the other innocent prisoners, he wanted to finish off  some ‘loose ends’.
This issue ‘main event’ was the fight between Frank and Taskmaster. Great fighting scenes, great choreography between panels and both of the characters were respected by the writer and artists. Another thing to add is the big reveal when Zemo tells Jigsaw his plans for Frank, which caught him by surprise.
This story is compressed, action packed and very entertaining.

Kudranski probably made the best issue so far in my opinion, the fighting scenes were really good all the details in the backgrounds and the dynamic between panels were superb. Just want to congratulate Kudranski for the design of the Taskmaster’s skull mask, it’s really impressive!
Fabela’s colors makde Kudranski’s art shine even more, I really liked the toned imprinted into this issue and his art is as important as Kudranski. His art shine by itself, but Antonio Fabela gave life into the scenes and characters.

Greg Smallwood quality covers are amazing and so far there wasn’t a cover that didn’t meet the expectations. This cover perfectly portrays what the Punisher has been doing with Hydra since the beginning of this run.

Final Thoughts: The speech is almost the same in every issue, despite the story being different. Rosenberg is doing a phenomenal job with the Punisher with 9 issues completed plus 11 more from War Machine it’s easy for me to say that Rosenberg is the best writer we had since Garth Ennis. Rosenberg is a fan and he is doing a fan service.
Kudranski and Fabela are getting better with every issue and in this issue they really nailed it as a team.
